RISC OS - Internet - Setting up Newshound
This guide is no longer supported, and is quite probably very out of date.
Setting up NewsHound
The first time you run NewsHound, it will ask you for a news hostname and nickname. Use your ISP's news server as the hostname, and pick a three letter combination for the nickname (I use 'def', short for 'default', but it doesn't matter). If you ever wish to change the hostname, it is in the file !NewsHound.Config.***Group, where *** is the three-letter nickname.
Now load NewsHound, and open Configure... from the menu. You can leave most of it as it is, but you want it to check a system variable, PPP$Connected; and you want it to fetch on load and quit on finish.
If you have multiple ISPs, I highly recommend you only collect news from one server (e.g. I only collect from news.argonet.co.uk), as the logistics of multiple news server downloads is very complicated - too complicated for me! Note however you can only log into a news server when connected to the right ISP - so I have to dial into Argonet to log onto news.argonet.co.uk.
