Setting up Voyager

First, rename the !Vixen file in !Voyager.Apps.News to !Vixen0, then open up the !Vixen file in !Voyager.Apps.Mail and delete the two 'disable' lines. Save this file, and open !Voyager.Apps.Mail.!Run. Change this so it contains just one line : 'Filer_Run <Location of Messenger>' replacing <Location of Messenger> with the full path of where Messenger is located. Make sure Messenger is setup to automatically load NewsBase on startup, and now you should be able to load Messenger/NewsBase from the Voyager toolbar!

Now onto the transports. The following was originally thought of by Nick Roberts, but improved upon by me! :-)

Make sure Voyager isn't loaded. Open up all four applications in the !Voyager.Apps.Transports directory and rename the !Vixen files to !Vixen0.

Create two directories inside !Voyager.VIX, one called POP-SMTP, the other called NNTP. Move POPstar into the POP-SMTP directory, and NewsHound into the NNTP directory. Then download this text file and put it in the POP-SMTP directory, renamed !Vixen, and this text file and put it in the NNTP directory, also renamed !Vixen.

Also in POP-SMTP create two Obey files - one called !Run containing two lines :

Set POPVoy$Dir <Obey$Dir>
Filer_Run <POPVoy$Dir>.!POPstar.!Run

and the other called !Boot containing one line : 'Run <Obey$Dir>.!POPstar.!Boot'.

Similarly in NNTP create two Obey files - one called !Run containing :

Set NNTPVoy$Dir <Obey$Dir>
Filer_Run <NNTPVoy$Dir>.!NewsHound.!Run

and the other called !Boot containing : 'Run <Obey$Dir>.!NewsHound.!Boot'.

Now open up both !NewsHound.!Run and !POPstar.!Run and alter their last lines to add the -voyager tag, so they read:

Run <NewsHound$Dir>.!Runimage -voyager %*0
/<POPstar$Dir>.!RunImage -voyager %*0

NB: If you are using Pluto, you can also add the -flashled tag (to make the mail and news icons flash their little envelopes if you have new mail/news) - Messenger cannot (yet) turn the animation off, so you would always think you had new mail!

There, I think that's it! :-)

When you next load Voyager, there should only be two LEDs on the toolbar - one for POPstar, one for NewsHound. When you go online, POPstar and NewsHound should automatically load, fetch and send, and Bob's your parent's brother!

If something goes wrong, just rename the !Vixen files in the same directory as POPstar and NewsHound to something else (eg. !Vixen0), and change the !Vixen0 files in the Transport applications (!SMTPSend and !POP3Fetch) back to !Vixen, and everything will be as it was before. Hopefully, that won't be necessary! :)
