Locate or find your nearest postboxes
Find your nearest postbox
Help locate unlocated postboxes –
the Royal Mail supplied a
list of every postbox’s location, but unfortunately, it did not
have useful co-ordinates, only postcodes or sub-postcodes and some textual
data. So I wrote this site: look up the postboxes near you by entering the
first half of your postcode below,
locate one whose location you know on the map, pick which postbox
you’ve located, and submit. The pages also include postbox last collection times, if we know them.
Latest (numbers update hourly)
32,814 postboxes located; 2,291 prefixes started (464 still to go), 1090 at least 25% done, 481 at least 75% done, 340 all done (Status by prefix)

Notes and useful links
- Export the locations of all located postboxes,
or subscribe to the RSS feed
.
- Thanks to Tom Taylor for making the request (and putting postboxes on iamnear.net using my ‘API’), Edward Betts for parsing it into TSV, Nick Burch for help and suggestions, npemap.org.uk for the partial postcode co-ordinates, OpenStreetMap for maps and postbox/ post office seeding, Abi Broom for requesting the last collection times, and Peter Chamberlin for making a further request .
- It's possible Internet Explorer might need to be in compatibility mode for the map to function properly – sorry, I don't know why.
- If you make a mistake in locating a postbox, just let me know.
- You can add postboxes and their references to OSM – use a key of ref, and this site will hopefully automatically pick them up every week or so.
- As postbox location is derived solely from the map (the list is simply to help prevent people locating the same postbox twice), and the simple fact of the geographic position of a postbox is not a copyrightable work, I believe the data can be licensed as public domain, and contributed to OpenStreetMap etc., as the location is not being derived from the list (the list is not good enough to do that :) ).
