WriteToThem is the successor to FaxYourMP, a site set up by a group of volunteers who thought it would be a good thing if it were easier for people to contact their MPs.
WriteToThem built upon this foundation, adding other levels of representative, from district councillor to MEP, whilst keeping the process as simple as possible – everyone knows their postcode. The minimalist design is mine, and my work on this now is mostly replying to user feedback and keeping contact details up to date. Though recently, we add the House of Lords, so people could contact their unelected representatives too.
mySociety obtained funding to do this, and its other launch projects, from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister’s e-innovations fund, in partnership with West Sussex County Council.
